Knitting Finished Objects
I finished my first sock design! The Moon River sock. I have been working on these for quite some times and loved the process of creating a cable and lace design from scratch. I used the most stunning had dyed sock yarn~ Paper Crane Yarns 75/25 fingerings weight in the Soleil colorway. I am writing up the pattern now and hope to share it with you soon.
I finally finished my Ballerina Wrap Top using Knit Picks Wool of the Andies in the (unfortunately discontinued) “Victorian” colorway. I knit this project over the course of a few months and loved the process so much, but fell victim at the very beginning to the age old mistake of thinking I could get away without swatching. The sweater turned out poorly (also due to my modifications) and I have definitely learned my lesson- always swatch! Still there are no hard feelings. The process was wonderful and I can’t wait to use the yarn for another project in the future.
I needed something mindless and easy to knit and fell in love with this simple Spring Garter Bonnet pattern. I knit up a couple of bonnets in cotton yarn (both fingering weight held triple to get guage) and the result is beyond adorable. Highly highly reccomend this pattern.
Knitting Works in Progress
I have returned to a pair of men’s socks that I started ages ago with scrap yarn.
I also have been designing a new shawl pattern which I can’t wait to knit up.
Sewing Projects
I ventured into sewing again by making a big bunch of organza scrunchies. My sister Clara-Bella is getting married and as one of her 9 (!) bridesmaids I wanted to contribute little something. I sewed these up in her wedding colors as gifts and love how they turned out. I used this fantastic tutorial to get started.
Other Art Projects
The first quarter of 2023 has been filled with paint. Painting frames, canvases, little pieces of furniture ~ all in wonderful combinations of color exactly to my liking. It is so much fun to fill one’s home to the brim with handmade things of all sorts.
A new favorite art of mine has been collageing. I started out with one for fun and then continued on, inspired to make a piece to cover the electrical box in the entryway of our home. I loved the way it turned out.
I hope that your first quarter was filled with lots of joyful making and that your inspiration just continues to blossom the coming months.
